Return to a life without pain

One of our many areas of specialty is working with people who have long standing pain and injuries, and problems in more than one area of their body.

Chronic pain is defined as pain being present for 6 months or more. We treat many patients who have had pain for 6 months or more and even sometimes for years.

Chronic pain can be from compensatory patterns that develop over time from postural faults and past injuries, past and recent surgeries, fibromyalgia and even chronic fatigue. Our comprehensive approach is ideal for treating these types of long standing problems, because we have the time and expertise in assessing and treating multiple areas of the the body that are potentially attributing to the problems.

Our approach includes:
  • A thorough assessment — It is important to take the time to initially identify all of the areas that are contributing to your long standing pain and injury for the most efficient treatment.
  • Patient education — It is critical for patients to understand what is happening in their bodies and understand how the changes we are asking them to make will impact their recovery.
  • Manual therapy — Many patients we see need manual therapy, and many need quite a bit of this, including joint mobilization, myofascial release, pointed manual soft tissue mobilization, cupping, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization and massage therapy.
  • Exercise — Getting the proper muscles working functionally is critical to reducing pain and improving overall function. Without restoring proper muscle function the effect of the manual therapy we do will be only temporary, because you will go right back to using the wrong muscles in a compensatory way, causing muscles to go right back to their tightened state. We incorporate Pilates, CoreAlign® and functional strength training with many of our physical therapy visits.
  • Postural instruction and body mechanics training — How we hold ourselves and move is very important to changing the patterns that lead to chronic pain, and acute pain that over time can turn into chronic pain. Improving posture and body mechanics is another critical piece that brings all of the various methods we use for therapy together.

Common chronic pain concerns we address include:
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Migraines
  • Hyperalgesia
  • Neurogenic Pain
  • And more
